California Congressman Eric Swalwell announced last night on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” that he is running for president. Swalwell has been contemplating a run for months and apparently, the 16 other officially-declared candidates did not deter him. “None of that is going to change until we get a leader who is willing to go big on the issues we take on, be bold in the solutions we offer and do good in the ways that we govern. I am ready to solve these problems. I am running for president of the United States,” he told Colbert.

Swalwell has been to some of the early nominating states several times and will be making another trip to Iowa this Thursday, South Carolina on Friday, and Nevada on Monday. Swalwell will be launching his campaign in Parkland, Florida today and will then be participating in a town hall tonight focused on gun control in Sunrise, Florida – a town just a few miles from the Parkland High School shooting. Swalwell is making combating gun violence his top priority.
