Seven Democratic representatives are forming a new PAC, Elect Democratic Women, in an effort to close the gender gap at the Capitol. The organization will make donations to female candidates and plan to help in future races as well.
Women are extremely underrepresented in Congress, especially on the Republican side despite Republicans holding the majority, with only 64 Democratic women and 25 Republican women out of the 435 seats. However, in 2018 over 600 women have signed up to run for House, Senate, and governor’s races, and 211 have advanced through House primaries.
