Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper was born on February 7, 1952 in Narberth, Pennsylvania and graduated from Wesleyan University. Hickenlooper worked as a geologist before co-founding the Wynkoop Brewing Company in Denver in 1988.
In 2003, despite never running for any public office, Hickenlooper decided to run for mayor of Denver and won by a landslide. He was re-elected in 2007 and was named by Time in 2005 as one of the top five big-city mayors in the US. Some of Hickenlooper’s most successful campaigns while serving as mayor included GreenPrint Denver (an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste) and Denver’s Road Home (a campaign to provide employment assistance and housing for the homeless).
Hickenlooper resigned as mayor just a few hours before being inaugurated as Colorado’s governor in 2011 and was re-elected in 2014. John Hickenlooper is married to Robin Pringle and has a son, Teddy, from a previous marriage.
While the John Hickenlooper campaign has yet to officially declare a 2020 run, his team is already staffing up in key primary states, and making waves in the media; in a recent interview with CNN, he offered that his chances of running for president “were more than 50-50.”
