Senator Cory Booker was born on April 27, 1969 in Washington D.C. Booker grew up in Newark, New Jersey and received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, where he played on the varsity football team. During this time, he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and studied at the University of Oxford where he earned his honors degree in U.S. history. Booker then went to Yale University to receive his law degree in 1997.
After law school, Booker moved back to Newark where he started a non-profit to provide legal services to struggling families. One year later, he was elected to the Newark City Council. In 2006, Booker was elected Newark mayor where he served for seven years. In October of 2013, Booker was elected to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate. He has never been married and has no children.
Will Cory Booker run for president in 2020? Early signs point to an upcoming announcement. In an interview with New York Magazine in September, Senator Booker stated “it would be irresponsible not to” consider a campaign, a position upheld by his fundraising and outreach activities in New Hampshire and Iowa in the months since that interview.
